Their Last Supper Together
Text: Mark 14:12-26
Reflection and Question: Jesus and his followers enter Jerusalem on the day the Passover lamb is sacrificed. The disciples prepare the Passover meal and the discussion about who will betray Jesus reminds them of Jesus’ expectation of suffering and death. From that day to this, Christians in all times and places have reminded themselves of Jesus’ words, “Take, this is my body,” and “This is the blood of the new covenant, which is poured out for many.” And bread and wine still remind us of His sacrifice and promise. Does time collapse for you in the midst of Holy Communion? Why or why not?
Prayer: Jesus, our Brother, You chose to be with your friends on the eve of Your arrest and we love You for this. You chose to take simple necessities, bread and wine, to mark Your sacrificial love unto the ages. Thank You for this sustenance. Amen.
